About the course

About this webinar:

The Covid pandemic has laid bare extraordinary waiting times for patients who seek medical care. Gastroenterology is no different, but because the specialty relies heavily on diagnostic tests such as imaging, and operator dependent tests such as endoscopy it has been hit especially hard.

In 2020, there was a displacement of over 500,000 endoscopy procedures – this in turn was a catalyst to new ways of thinking about how diagnostic services can be rationalised, and used in a more efficient way.

In NHS recovery plan, there are hints to the direction that recovery services should be structured. These have been directed to more accurate non-invasive triage at primary care level as well as accessing nurse lead diagnostics such as capsule technologies in selected groups to ultimately ease the burden of traditional diagnostic services.

This talk will take the audience through the variety of non-invasive tests now available for patients and highlights an array of more patient friendly investigations that are starting to move away from traditional push endoscopy testing. Dr Campbell, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Director of The Capsule clinic explains what tests are now available and when and how to utilise them.
